Getting started

1. Pick your paper. Tap Paper and choose a size, or type your own. Do this first, so everything you add is placed for that sheet. It saves a lot of shuffling later.
2. Add photos. Tap the plus button and choose Photos or Files. You can select many at once, paste copied images, or on iPad drag them in from another app.
3. Arrange them. Tap a photo to select it, drag to move, pull a corner to resize. To make a collage, tap Select more on one photo, tap the others, then choose Collage.
4. Print. Tap the printer button in the top corner, pick a printer, and print. Then go and find a magnet.

Everything can be undone with the arrows at the top, so poke around freely.

Printing

My printer doesn’t show up

PrintRight prints through AirPrint. Check that the printer supports AirPrint, is switched on and awake, and is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad. Restarting the printer, and sometimes the router, fixes most of these. Some printers sleep like teenagers and take a minute to reappear.

The print is smaller or bigger than it should be

PrintRight sends the page at its real size, so a photo set to 10 × 15 cm is 10 × 15 cm on the page it sends. If the result is scaled, something between the app and the paper is shrinking it: usually a “fit to page” or scaling option on the printer, or paper in the tray that doesn’t match the paper chosen in PrintRight. Printers love being helpful like that. Turn scaling off and match the paper.

PrintRight won’t print and says something is outside the printable area

Most printers can’t reach the very edge of the sheet. When part of your page sits where the printer can’t print, PrintRight tells you before it starts, rather than eating a sheet of your good paper. Move that item inward, or choose a margin in Paper. If your printer supports borderless printing, choose No margin and turn borderless on in the printer’s own settings.

Colours look off

In Print & export, choose Color and the paper type you’re actually using. Photo paper with a plain paper setting tends to come out muddy, and the reverse drowns it in ink. Your printer’s own colour settings still apply on top.

PDF and JPEG

No printer, or printing somewhere else? Open Print & export and choose Export as PDF or Export as JPEG. The share sheet lets you save the file to Files, send it by message or email, or open it in another app.

• PDF keeps the exact page size and full photo resolution. Use it for print shops.
• JPEG is exported at 300 DPI, which is handy for photo kiosks and online print services. Very large pages are exported as PDF only.

Photos and editing

A photo looks cut off

Select it and tap Crop. The whole photo shows faintly behind the frame; drag it, pull the handles, or use Reset to start over. In a collage, crop works inside the photo’s slot.

Removing a background

Select a photo, tap Adjust and switch on Remove background. It works on the device and does best with one clear subject, such as a person, a pet or an object in front of a plain-ish background. A cat lying in a pile of cushions is harder. Cats know this.

Things won’t line up, or keep jumping into place

That’s snapping, and it’s only trying to help. Settings has a Snapping page where you choose what things snap to, or switch it off entirely.

I deleted something by accident

Tap undo at the top. PrintRight remembers a long history, so you can go back several steps. We’ve all been there.

Saving pages

PrintRight always keeps the page you’re working on, even after the app is closed. To keep a page for later, tap the folder button and choose Save page. It writes a .printright file to Files with every photo packed inside, so it’s safe to back up, move or send to another device. Open page brings it back, fully editable. New page clears the sheet and starts fresh.

Quick answers

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. PrintRight runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later and iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, in portrait and landscape. On iPad you also get keyboard shortcuts, pointer support and photos dragged in from other apps.

Can I add things other than photos?

Titles and captions in bundled fonts, with spacing and shaped frames behind them. A big shelf of built-in symbols, plus your own SVG drawings, which you can recolour.

Can I start a collage before I have the photos?

Yes. Add an empty collage from the plus button, pick a layout and tap each empty space to fill it, or fill them all and tap Arrange for me. Or select a few photos already on the page and tap Collage.

Which printers does it work with?

Any AirPrint printer your iPhone or iPad can reach. The paper sizes on offer and how close to the edge it can print depend on the printer, not on us. No AirPrint printer? Export a PDF or JPEG and print it somewhere else.

Which paper sizes are there?

A4, A5 and the rest of the A sizes, US Letter, Legal and Tabloid, common photo sizes such as 10 × 15 cm and 4 × 6″, and custom sizes you type in. For real printing, pick a paper your printer actually has in the tray.

PrintRight has no account, no ads and no analytics. Your photos stay on your device. The privacy policy has the details, and the terms of use cover the rest.
